Description

The first Ebbtide was the Waikiki Ebbtide Hotel at 234 Ohua Ave, a 48-unit project that opened in July 1959.

The Ebbtide Hotels were started as a cooperative hotel-apartment enterprise. As a developer they would construct and market the separate units to individual investors, and then manage the properties as a hotel operation.

Many of the Ebbtide Hotels were designed and built by Island Lumber Co., Ltd.  Clarence O. Furuya was the Chief Executive Officer and Board Chairman of Island Lumber, and joined Philip A. Voto and R. K. Ho to create Ebbtide Hotels.
