Description

The Holiday Isle Hotel is a 14-story bank and hotel building that opened February 1967. It opened with 288 rooms - "each will have air conditioning and small kitchenettes." The architect was Thomas O. Wells.

Currently the building is the Hokulani Waikiki by Hilton Grand Vacations.

The Holiday Isle Hotel replaced a 2-story building that had a Royal Pharmacy and Watumull's on the first floor and professional offices on the second.

On the ground floor, facing Kalakaua Avenue, was a new 2-story branch of First National Bank. The branch occupied approximately 12,000 square feet . The architect was Wimberly, Wisenand, Allison and Tong.

Thomas O(tt). Wells was born in San Francisco on December 24, 1929. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 1957 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He initially worked for Vladimir Ossipoff on such projects as the Pacific Club and Hawaii Medical Library. He started his own firm in 1961: Thomas O. Wells & Associates. His firm won honors for such projects as the Waikiki Yacht Club and Waimea Village Inn.

Wells died on November 21, 1986 in Aspen Colorado.
